Our Barn Community is thrilled to announce that we have been honoured with a One Hounslow Community Star Award. The award ceremony took place at Hounslow House on Monday, July 15th, 2024, celebrating the exceptional contributions of individuals and groups dedicated to making Hounslow a vibrant and thriving community.
The Our Barn Community received the nomination for our recent project with the Our Futures team, where we transformed the garden at Age UK Hounslow. Initially, the garden was neglected and unusable, posing a challenge for the day centre members who could not fully enjoy the outdoor space. The award also shines a light on all of the work of Our Barn Community for 16-35-year-olds in the Hounslow and surrounding boroughs.
In collaboration with Beth, the community manager, our team embarked on an extensive makeover. Tasks included:
- Weeding: Removing unwanted plants to make room for new growth.
- Clearing Debris: Tidying up the area to create a safe and inviting space.
- Planting: Introducing aromatic herbs and flowers to enhance the sensory experience.
- Installing a Bird Feeder: Adding an element of nature to the garden.
- Creating Instructional Signs: Providing guidance for users to maximize the garden’s potential.
A Collective Effort
This transformation was a collective effort that showcased the dedication and hard work of everyone involved. Beth, the day centre manager, expressed her delight with the garden’s transformation, noting the positive impact it will have on the day centre members. We are hopeful that Age UK Hounslow will continue to develop the garden, making it an even greater asset for their community.
