Our very own Our Barn community member and proud Hounslow Lioness, Hannah Wallace, is making a big impact one meal at a time through her incredible volunteering work with Open Kitchen on Great West Road, Hounslow.
Hannah’s journey began during the height of the pandemic lockdown in 2020, when she first came across Open Kitchen, a service run by Muslim Hands charity that provides free meals every single day of the year — rain or shine, 12–2pm without fail. What started as a visit for a warm meal quickly turned into something much more: a chance to give back.
“Giving out free food is awesome,” says Hannah. She soon joined the charity’s dedicated team of chefs, coordinators, delivery drivers, and volunteers, helping to serve nutritious meals to those in need. Special occasions like Eid are celebrated with meat and vegetarian options, making sure everyone feels welcome and valued.
Hannah’s commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed. She’s earned multiple certificates and even featured twice on the organisation’s YouTube channel, spreading good news and raising awareness about the importance of community service.
But for Hannah, the best part? “The friendly faces and sharing food with others.”
Outside of Open Kitchen, Hannah’s dedication shines just as brightly. She volunteered at Our Barn’s Café at LMWS, and at Pump & Grind, especially on Sundays when extra hands were needed. She’s also working hard on her personal development, studying catering and digital skills at college.
When she’s not volunteering or studying, Hannah is full of energy: a keen swimmer, a member of PHAB, Slimming World, KDYoga, Feltham Bees, and a fan of tennis, running, Boccia, and the Hounslow Lions.
With two to three volunteer shifts a week, Hannah remains an inspiration to us all. She proves that with a little time and a big heart, you can help build a stronger, more caring community.
